Do carbs make you gain weight?
A frequently debated topic in the dieting world! I’m guilty of trying all the diets under the sun in the past, the typical yo-yo dieter. I only started seeing results when I actually educated myself on FACTS. So here’s a few for you think about...
Carbs are the bodies main source of energy, so not to be neglected when striving for any form of physical goal!
Carbs are not just bread, pasta, rice...fruit is primarily carbs, vegetables are carbs, I remember when I used to have fruit and yoghurt when I was young #nocarbs...when it was literally nearly 100% carbs🤣
For every 1 gram of carbs you consume (aka a banana is around 30g carbs) you hold 3 x the amount in water, not fat, water. So when you go keto for a week and lose 7lb straight away, you’ve not lost any fat, and it will appear again as soon as you consume any carbs. Aka, keto is pointless.
If you cut out a whole food group, yes you’re probably going to lose weight because the restriction usually means you’re in a calorie deficit.
The only way carbs will make you gain fat, or gain weight, is if you are in an overall caloric surplus. You can eat pizza all day and still lose weight if you’re eating in a caloric deficit. (Aka eating slightly less than the energy you’re expending)
Carb sources like wholegrains, beans, legumes and vegetables are full of fibre, our bodies don’t carry the enzymes to break down fibre AKA what goes in must come out. Amazing for digestion🙌🏽
To summarise 🥔🥖🍠🥨🥐 absolutely love a baguette and a bowl of pasta me. Carbs are not the enemy😊You should always aim for a good balance of protein, carbs and healthy fats in your diet and not restrict yourself. It’s energy in vs energy out, that’s the bottom line!
